Gravitational wave memory of the binary black hole events in GWTC-2

چکیده

Gravitational wave (GW) memory is an important prediction of general relativity. Existing works on the GW detection targeted nonoscillatory strain. It hard for strain analysis method to detect due its quasidirect current behavior and weakness. We implement a completely different scheme in this work estimate memory. In scheme, we first apply Bondi-Metzner-Sachs calculate binary black hole based numerical relativity simulation. Then construct surrogate model relate hole's parameters Afterwards together with Bayesian techniques 48 events recorded GWTC-2. The corresponding all has been estimated.

Nonlinear Gravitational-wave Memory from Binary Black Hole Mergers

Some astrophysical sources of gravitational-waves can produce a “memory effect,” which causes a permanent displacement of the test masses in a freely-falling gravitational-wave detector. The Christodoulou memory is a particularly interesting nonlinear form of memory that arises from the gravitational-wave stress-energy tensor’s contribution to the distant gravitational-wave field. This nonlinea...

Binary black hole detection rates in inspiral gravitational wave searches

Abstract The signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) for quasi-circular binary black hole inspirals computed from restricted post-Newtonian waveforms are compared with those attained by more complete postNewtonian signals, which are superpositions of amplitude-corrected harmonics of the orbital phase. It is shown that if one were to use the best available amplitude-corrected waveforms for detection templ...

Status of black-hole-binary simulations for gravitational-wave detection

It is now possible to theoretically calculate the gravitational-wave signal from the inspiral, merger and ringdown of a black-hole-binary system. The late inspiral, merger and ringdown can be calculated in full general relativity using numerical methods. The numerical waveforms can then be either stitched to inspiral waveforms predicted by approximation techniques (in particular postNewtonian c...

Gravitational-wave data analysis using binary black-hole waveforms

While the inspiral and ring-down stages of the binary black-hole coalescence are well-modelled by analytical approximation methods in general relativity, the recent progress in numerical relativity has enabled us to compute accurate waveforms from the merger stage also. This has an important impact on the search for gravitational waves from binary black holes. ‘Complete’ binary black-hole wavef...

Gravitational-wave memory revisited: memory from the merger and recoil of binary black holes

Gravitational-wave memory refers to the permanent displacement of the test masses in an idealized (freely-falling) gravitational-wave interferometer. Inspiraling binaries produce a particularly interesting form of memory—the Christodoulou memory. Although it originates from nonlinear interactions at 2.5 post-Newtonian order, the Christodoulou memory affects the gravitational-wave amplitude at l...
